Abstract. Riparian habitats are significant ecosystems that perform a range of ecosystem services and act as ecological causes for better river health. In the Shabe Sombo District's Duko River, this study was conducted. This study's objective was to assess the Duko River's woody species, structures, and regeneration state. Methods. Using a systematic sampling technique, forty (40) quadrats measuring 10 m by 50 m (500 m2) were placed at intervals of 100 m along the river. Each major plot was divided into 2 m x 2 m (4 m2) subplots for seedlings and saplings. Scientific Novelty. The riparian vegetation of the Duko River in Southwest Ethiopia has never before been thoroughly evaluated ecologically. The study adds to our understanding of the species composition and population dynamics of riparian forests and offers empirical support for regional efforts to conserve biodiversity, regulate watersheds, and restore ecosystems. Results. There were 47 woody species in all, belonging to 26 families and 40 genera. With seven species, or 14.89 percent, Fabaceae was the most prevalent family. Three species, or 31.9 percent, were found in each of the five other main families: Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, Moraceae, Myrtaceae, and Rutaceae. Regarding growth form, 24 (51.7%) tree species and 23 (48%) shrub species were found. The densities of seedlings, saplings, and mature trees/shrubs were 1255.5/ha, 954.5/h, and 1054/ha, respectively. The results of this study show that the riparian vegetation of woody species in Duko Rivers has a satisfactory regeneration state since the density of seedlings > saplings < mature trees/shrubs.
