Аннотация. Objective. A crucial tactic for attaining Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) is Participatory Forest Management (PFM), especially in developing nations where forests are intimately associated with rural lives. With an emphasis on Ethiopia, this study examines the prospects and difficulties of PFM by synthesizing recent empirical and theoretical literature. The results show that PFM makes a substantial contribution to better forest structure, regeneration, biodiversity preservation, and the delivery of ecosystem services including watershed protection and carbon sequestration. Additionally, it improves rural livelihoods by building local institutions and community governance systems, increasing access to non-timber forest products, and diversifying sources of income. However, a number of enduring issues impede PFM's efficacy, such as inadequate institutional capacity, ambiguous or unstable land and forest tenure agreements, unfair benefit-sharing arrangements, and restricted access to markets and funding. Even while PFM has produced favorable ecological and socioeconomic results in a number of Ethiopian regions, its long-term viability is still in doubt in the absence of greater institutional coordination and policy backing. Furthermore, significant community involvement, inclusive decision-making procedures, and sufficient financial and technical assistance are necessary for PFM to succeed. The review also identifies important research needs, including the need for effect assessment, long-term ecological monitoring, and improved integration of social inclusion, equity, and gender issues. All things considered, PFM is still a viable and flexible strategy for striking a balance between conservation goals and rural development objectives in sustainable forest management.
